I am an Assistant Professor of Sociology at the University of Illinois-Chicago. Previously, I was a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the University of Washington. I received my PhD in Sociology from Princeton University.
My core research agenda concerns how urban economic development and social inequality affect one another. More specifically, I study the effects of commercial development on urban and suburban communities, with a particular focus on immigrant entrepreneurship, gentrification, and gayborhoods. To conduct my research, I primarily draw on methods from demography, econometrics, geography, and data science.
